Is Article Marketing Considered White Hat



People are very afraid of getting their website punished in the search results by Google or some other search engine. This is why white hat link building is such a popular topic online. You can decide that for yourself. Let's just talk about article marketing and whether it is considered white hat.

Which category article marketing falls into really depends on how you are doing it. Some people like to automate their article marketing as much as possible by using spinners. Some take it a step farther and pay for a service that will spin and distribute the articles to a bunch of different places. It is safe to say that using one of those services or using any computer software to randomly generate articles would be considered black hat. After all, if you are using a spinner, chances are you don't really care about the quality of the article or whether the article ever gets read by a human.

Of course there are some people out there who will argue that using a spinner is not black hat. In my opinion it is totally black hat. Even if you proofread the article before it gets sent out, I still consider it so. I am sure the search engines would consider it that way too. Any time you use a non-human means for manually or automatically slamming out links in quantity, the search engines are going to consider you a spammer.

Article marketing would be good when you take the time to write each article from scratch while paying attention to the quality of the article. If you are trying to produce excellent quality material that actually satisfies the readers who come across your piece, then you could consider yourself a white hat article marketer. If your articles are designed to attract readers and actually provide value to the readers then you are at least trying to play by the rules.

So the answer to the question really depends on how you do things. Matt Cutts has said the same thing before during public interviews. You have got to focus on adding quality content to the web. If your content quality is high enough, as perceived by the general public, you will eventually be rewarded with good rankings and traffic.

How do you know when you are crossing a line with the search engines? I guess you don t really know unless you see some kind of penalty placed upon your website.

Regardless of what you read elsewhere online, the search engines aren t really against people trying to promote their own websites.

They are against people who are trying to use software automation to hack or defeat an algorithm so that a devious person can get crappy pages to rank. That is what they are really looking out for.
