It can be hard to see the forest for the trees when pursuing a search engine optimization campaign. The following are useful tidbits I have found over the years that will help you achieve results.

1. Optimize All Pages - To the extent possible, try to optimize all pages of your site, not just the home page. Your goal is to push all the pages up in the rankings to draw traffic, not just the home page.

2. Daily Fresh Content - If you want to make the search engines sit up and notice you, add a daily tip to your site. Use automated software to preload the tips.

3. Efficient Meta Titles - When putting your meta title together for the pages on your site, don't just slap keyword phrases together. The title is what people will see in search results, so make sure it makes sense.

4. Meta Description Tip - Your meta description is an important part of optimizing a page. To maximize the impact, your meta description should be the exact text in the first paragraph of the text on the page in question.

5. Meta Keywords Tip - Setting up you meta keywords for search engine optimization used to be very important. Most search engines don't look at them now, so don't spend much time on them.

6. Finding Freelance Writers - if you are hunting for freelance writers, try using Elance or RentaCoder. Alternatively, you can try posting on the article directories that have forums.

7. Checking Yahoo Rankings - Google and MSN will often vary the rankings for a site on a daily basis. Yahoo tends to stick and sit. You only need to check your rankings on Yahoo once every two weeks or so.

8. Finding Online Buyers - People on the web tend to browse a lot, which is why programs like Internet Explorer are called browsers. Focus on "buy" keywords to get better results. A person that types buy widgets is ready to part with their money.

9. The Keyword Box - When developing keyword lists for your optimization efforts, try to think beyond the subject matter of the site. Throw in catch all phrases such as "problems", "gifts" and so on as appropriate.

10. Keywords Article Titles - Many people mistakenly use their keyword phrase in articles submitted to directories. If you do this, the article directory may outrank you!

When playing with your optimization efforts, remember to factor in time. Simply put, you need to give the changes time to be digested by the search engines. Making weekly changes isn't going to tell you anything.
