SEO Is Crtically Important If You Want Your Website To Be Found.



According to comScore, U.S. online retail sales rose by 13% in the third quarter of 2011 compared to the same quarter in 2010. That marks the eighth consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth. It is quite clear to see why retailers must have a well designed website available for customers and for that website to be found on major search engines.

The sad reality is, the web is littered with hard to find websites. The business owners did not want to have these websites hidden away. In fact, they may have spent a lot of time and effort designing them. Despite all the hard work, they have overlooked one key ingredient to help them get found on the internet - search engine optimization (SEO).

In August, 18 percent of new visitors to the websites of large online retailers came from organic search, making this the #1 traffic source according to RichRelevance's Online Consumer Report. Over 95 percent of internet users who conduct a web search click links from the first page of the search results. The harsh reality is, if your site is not optimized for search engines, you could be losing out on a huge number of potential customers who simply cannot find your website.

Improving your rankings is easier than you may think. You must start to understand what search engines are looking for and make it simple for them to find it on your website.

Major search engines, such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo!, have an algorithm which they use to rank different websites. Although the specifics of what the algorithms are hunting for are confidential, it is possible to understand the key elements of what makes websites rank higher. Web crawlers locate web pages that are then rated. The first essential step is making sure that your webpage is crawlable.

The next thing to optimize for is the content. Search engines are hunting for the keywords that users are typing in to the search engine. Ensure that your content contains the keywords that online searchers use when they go to search engines to look for your products or services.

Once a new potential customer has located your site, it is essential that the content matches what he or she was searching for. The site should be well-designed and it should be easy-to-use. If it is not, your visitor will soon click back to the search engine.

You don't have a lot of time. As fast as the eye can take in information, your user will be attempting to answer three questions. Am I in the right spot? Is this where I want to be? And, what do I do from here? If your website doesn't answer these three questions easily with it's layout, it's most definitely time to redesign it so it does!

If you don't, you are going to loose a lot of potential business if your visitors do not have a great experience.
