1) The first problem that most run into with their business online, is generating traffic. Just because you spent a good amount of money and the site looks really good doesnt mean that anyone knows how to find it.
You will find that an easy way to promote your site is by submitting it to reputable directories around the Internet. Whether it's social bookmarking sites, networking sites, or article directories, it can make a world of difference.
Further optimize it for search engines by following good SEO practices, building quality content and generating inbound links from other sites. Once you do that, you'll need to monitor progress with web analytics software. Google Analytics is free and it has a slick interface.
2. You have worthless content. What defines worthless content? Without knowing what topic your web site covers it's tough to say, but if you have nothing that sets you apart from your top competitors then I'd say you aren't in good shape. If you don't know what kind of content people are looking for on the Internet today, take a peek at what's popular on social bookmarking sites.
Take a glance at the way the top competitor has theirs set up and use that as a measuring stick of where you need to go with yours. Make sure that you are creative, and try to stand out amongst others.
3) Making your site user friendly is number 3. Making sure that once a customer comes to your website and either wants to sign up, or make a purchase that they know exactly where to go. A customer that doesn't know where to go or isnt guided that way can become frustrated and leave your site. Poor promotional language can have a lasting effect on your site and will make it very hard for you to keep the clientele you have generated.
Use your web analytics software again to find out what pages visitors are landing on first. If your home page gets the most traffic, make sure there are clear links to your sub-topics. If inner pages are your most popular landing pages, find out if the traffic is targeted.
If you just take advantage of one of our tips, make sure you always let the visitor know how they can purchase your product. Remember, we all have short attention spans in the fast paced world we live in today. Having them jump through hoops to get the final result will only make the majority of them turn away.
4) You have generated traffic but have no sales. This is a good thing up front, because you cant have sales without traffic, and since you have traffic now you need to figure out how to be unique. Before taking the steps needed to be unique make sure that the traffic you are generating is relevant. Learning how to analyze your site with where, when, and how long people visit your website is key to helping you generate sales. So make sure you find out what keywords they are searching, and what content they are viewing.
5) Relevant traffic is there but no sales showing. Make sure you thoroughly test all functionalities on various browsers to make sure your site is running the way it should be. Submit any test forms you get and do a link check to make sure you spot possible broken links.
There are many ways to fight off problems you may have with your website, but taking the proper steps is crucial to your success. So even if you're sales process takes the consumer away from your site, you may want to investigate that as well. In the end you will be able to overcome any obstacle with your business website and start making profits.
